Taylor B. ---hour 5--that is so awsome that the Phoneix is going to land on mars on May 25th. If i created that i'd be like so scared that it would like not work. How long didi it take to build it? I can't wait to find out if it lands safely on mars!

YO HOMIES HR. 5 COLE that is very cool thatsomething new is supposedly going to land on mars this may. I also think that our new technology (since 2001 or 2003 when we sent the first rovers to Mars) will help us find new things about Mars and it's past. AND YES SCIENCE WITH MS. RATZEL PWNS. YA YA YA BABY!!!!!!!!!!

Hr 8 Jamie- On the frist video it showed it landing but when it droped the little bubbles came out and bounced safly on mars but with this one it has to land it's self by useing little rockets attached to it. Also It explained what Phioxe is sopded to do not just show you. The website says it's going to land on the 25th of MAy. What if Phinox dosen't land correctly wolud they have to start all over?

Mrs. R.....what do you think about the fact that it takes 7 minutes for it to go through the Martian atmosphere and 10 minutes for the communications signal to get back to Earth. I thought it was amazing when the engineer talked about how the whole thing will really be over by the time they get the first part of the messaging back.

Think about what that means...right now when you click the mouse out on the Internet....a signal zips across the whole country...maybe even the whole world. Yet it appears that the trip really just happened inside the computer box. Compare that to the signal that is sent from Mars. It takes 10 minutes for it to get back to Earth.

Mars must be a really, really long way away from here if you think about it.

Lauren hour7:) on may 25 this robot will land on mars but the very hard problem they have to fix is the landing. the landing is the hardest because this robot is flying at 125 mph and since mars is so far away from earth it takes 10 minutes fo a single message to get to earth so they won't know if it will land safly because when it lands it would already land and they have to wwait 10 more minutes to get to earth.

profile picture

Science Class said

at 3:40 pm on May 6, 2008

Chloe hr.5) I think it would be really hard for a scientist who has worked really hard on something like this to know that they will get the signals 10 minutes after there spacecraft entered the atmosphere and landed. It must be very difficult like Lauren said because it's flying at 9,000 something miles per hour and it has to slow down completely. Plus they talked about how it has to know when its going to get rid of its heat sheild and parachute. The people who programmed it had to be really smart.

Thinking about it one of the main causes of global warming is carbon; so earth is one of the few planets that have carbon so other planets couldn't do it. Also poulltion plays it part. So planet like neptune or pluto can't go thourgh the process. Jamie.s Hour :8

Hour 8 ==Jack== In response to Hour 8 Muriel / A comet tail is made up of light dust and evaporating vapors that are melting off the nucleus as it travels closer to the Sun.

In response to Jordahn Hour 6 / the craft used a special kind of super-light gel to trap the tiny particles, after it collected for a while, it reversed direction to the Earth, and landed in the sea.
